Viktoria on top of the Siegessäule looking down at the Loveparade, Berlin

In the middle of the Tiergarten distric in Berlin you find a huge roundabound with in the middle, the Siegessäule. It is a construction of about 67 metres high with on the top a golden angel named Viktoria. She is the roman Godess of victory. Visitors can walk via a narrow straicase inside the column up to the observation platform where you have an amazing view over the area.

The military monument was built in 1873 to celebrate the victory of the united German states againt several nations under which Denmark, Austria and France. Next to the golden angel on the top, the column has on the first floor great mosaic art and sculptures. On the picture you can not judge this but the ground floor is rather big and contains a museum.

Originaly, this monument was erected on the Königsplatz in front of the Brandenburgertor. What? Yes, in 1939 it was moved over a distance of 2,5km on the orders of Adolf Hilter. Who could refuse him anything in those days?

Instead of war, this enormous square is also one of the main locations to remember friendship, tolerance, acceptance, love and the enjoyment a good techno party. During the Berlin Loveparade of 2006 there were more than a million people dancing on these boulevards. It would not be for us but it is a significant part of the recent history of the Siegessäule.
